Statement by EU High Representative Catherine Ashton on International Holocaust Remembrance Day |

The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the Commission issued the following statement today: |

Hodiaŭ ni rememoras la viktimojn de la Holokaŭzto. |
Today we remember the victims of the Holocaust. |
| この欧州の歴史の最も暗い時代に、残虐に殺害された600万人、一人ひとりの栄誉を讃える日である。 |
Ni honoras ĉiujn de ses milionoj kiuj estis brutele murditaj en tiu plej malluma epoko de Eŭropa historio. |
We honour every one of the six million who were brutally murdered in this darkest period of European history. |
| そしてまた、ホロコーストを生き延びた人びとに対し、格別の敬意を表したいと思う。その方々の存在により、我々はこの悲劇を決して忘てはならないことを肝に銘じる。 |
Mi anka? volas fari specialan omaĝon al la postvivantoj de la Holokaŭsto, kiuj rememorigas nin pri ĉi tiu tragedio, ke ni devas neniam forgesi. |
I also want to pay special tribute to the survivors of the Holocaust, who remind us of this tragedy that we must never forget. |

On International Holocaust Remembrance Day, we remember that this crime was not perpetrated by a few individuals. |

That is why we must remain vigilant. |

Hodiaŭ ankaŭ donas al ni okazon por laŭdi la agojn de kuraĝo kaj ofero, kiu lumigis Eŭropon. |
Today also gives us a chance to celebrate the acts of courage and sacrifice which lit up Europe: |

najbaroj kiuj savis familiojn, dungantoj kiuj savis siajn dungitojn, kaj ĉiuj kiuj protektis ilian samurbanojn. |
neighbours who saved families, employers who rescued their employees and all those who protected their fellow citizens. |
| この行動こそ、我々が悪に対し、決して無力ではないことを証明している。 |
Tiuj agoj pruvas, ke ni ne estas senpova kontraŭ malbono. |
These acts are proof that we are not powerless against evil. |
| それは、過去の犯罪を記憶するだけではなく、我々の時代において、あらゆる憎むべき行為を排除するために、また基本的権利と自由を守るために、自らを献身するようにと、今の我々を導く教訓である」 |
Tio estas leciono, kiu devas gvidi nin hodiaŭ; ne nur simple memori la krimoj nde la pasinteco, sed dediĉi nin preventi ĉiun malamindan agon kaj ekstari por fundamentaj rajtoj kaj liberecoj en nia propra epoko. |
That is a lesson which must guide us today; not just to remember the crimes of the past, but to dedicate ourselves to preventing all acts of hatred and standing up for fundamental rights and freedoms in our own time. |
